The collision of Comet Shoemaker- Levy 9 and Jupiter was measured in many wavelengths of light. In this ultraviolet image, several impact sites appear as dark patches along the southern edge of the planet. Note that the familiar cloud bands cannot be seen in ultraviolet light.
